Don't forget to wave!
Whether you know it as the Mazda MX5, Roadster or Eunos Roadster, or Miata in the US, it is the world’s best-selling two-seater convertible. An impressive history for a little roadster with three decades and four generations to its name.
Since American journalist Bob Hall met with Mazda’s head of research and development, Kenichi Yamamoto, in 1979, the seed was planted that Mazda should build a simple, back-to-basics true sports car with Japanese reliability.
Since its reveal 10 years later at the 1989 Chicago Motor Show, people began to recognize that the MX5 was not merely a car, but had the ‘Jinba Ittai’ driver-and-car-as-one spirit, with near perfect front/rear balance, responsive suspension and lightweight, rear-wheel drive design.
Many people who have bought them since are extremely passionate ownership with clubs, social groups and events held regularly around the world. It is certainly a unique car and many who own them love to acknowledge other enthusiasts when on the road with a MX5 Wave.
But not everyone feels that way, and there is nothing less fun than enjoying a drive, seeing another MX5 driver and waving, but getting nothing in return.
But not us! We are a community of like-minded enthusiasts that don’t want the wave to die. We want to see people wave back, not sit there pretending they haven’t seen another enthusiastic MX5 owner.
Save the MX5 Wave!
